For love and responsibility

A small intervention prevents great suffering

Uncastrated cats reproduce at an incredible rate. If we assume that a pair of cats has two offspring per year and three kittens per litter survive, then, after seven years, this results in more than 420,000 cats!

Therefore, have your cat neutered after the age of six months! By having your cat neutered, you show your love and responsibility for your pet. Detailed information is available on the website of the Swiss Animal Protection STS: www.katzenelend.ch

Castration campaign for wild or farm cats

Every year the Tierschutzverein Zug organizes a castration campaign for wild and farm cats. With this important measure, the TSV Zug, in cooperation with the Swiss Animal Protection STS, attempts to limit the number of wild cats and minimize diseases.

In the animal shelter, we castrate farm and wild cats and are supported by various veterinarians in the region. This campaign costs several thousand francs, but because the STS supports us financially, farmers can have their cats neutered in an easy, cost-effective manner.

This helps to keep the cat population healthy, because only healthy cats are good “mousers”. In order to capture wild cats in the least stressful manner, our shelter lends cat traps. This offer is available throughout the year.

Feline Leukemia (FeLV)

Since 2015, we have been testing all farm cats for feline leukemia (FeLV), as the disease is occurring more frequently. FeLV is a highly contagious disease that is always fatal. If the test is positive, i.e. the FeLV virus is detected in the blood, the cat is euthanized. Unfortunately, this is the only way to contain the disease and the only way to maintain healthy, leukemia-free cat populations on farms.
